Thursday’s Special

conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being.

The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria [ɫa bɔkəˈɾiə] is a large public market in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and one of the city’s foremost tourist landmarks, with an entrance from La Rambla. It is full of wholesome foodstuffs (and some not so wholesome)

I live in the UK, but when I was younger I spent several years travelling the world followed by a period living in South Africa. I look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

        1. I know YOU have at least one fab market in Melbourne because I have been to it – never in my life had I seen such HUGE avocados. Queen Victoria I think.

        2. Yes that’s true. Queen Victoria is correct. One of the photography groups did an excursion there recently but I wasn’t able to go. Their photos look good though!

    1. I have some lovely shots of this market and an outdoor one. Once I finish with Norwich I may take a break from the UK trip and do some Barcelona posts.

  1. As I have mentioned before, I love that market myself. One of these days, I will try to find the photos I took when I visited it. A nice splurge of colour on a dull day, Jude.
    Best wishes, Pete. x

      1. Oh yes, you should!
Funny story, when we took our girls to England in 1999 they were 9 and 12. One day we had a big driving day, and we stopped at a Little Chef for a meal. The children’s meals included free lollies. The girls thought that was good, but they didn’t get what they expected. They weren’t disappointed though!

  2. Utterly juicy colours ! Lovely photos .
You’re right Jude , they’re so creative with their displays one hardly likes to disturb such arrangments 🙂
Is there a Fish market here ? It was amazing , but I’m not sure if it is in the same place . I have a distinct memory of a senior lady selling and dealing with the fish in her bloodied white pinny and huge knife 🙂
