Thursday’s Special: Art in Auckland

Paula’s (Lost in Translation) challenge this week is Urban Art

urban art

Art can cheer up the most dreary of places like this road leading into the city.

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. I must say that I have always been a fan of street art livening up these drab spaces. It also tends to deter graffiti artists, at least those who only daub tags and squiggles. The ‘powers that be’ should encourage more like this.
    Regards as always, Pete. x

  2. Hi there, Jude, I’ve been a little distracted over the last couple of months (1st grand baby, my own travels) and haven’t kept up with my reading as much as I like. Somehow I totally missed that you were here, but then again I was away in Myanmar at the end of 2015. I’m thoroughly enjoying your posts about my motherland!.

    1. Congratulations on the grandbaby! Such a wonderful experience. My 7th due in May (Perth, Australia). Such a long way away. I was in NZ end of 2014 and really hope to go back again and see more of the country. It is beautiful 🙂

      1. I went back to your New Zealand round up 2 while I was there. (link from the bottom of this post 🙂 ) Happy memories! Multi-tasking this morning. Trying to watch overnight tennis from Indian Wells, cook Sunday lunch and pull my Monday walk together. 🙂 You off into the sunshine or heading home? Happy Sunday!

        1. I went back too 😀 and enjoyed the revisit. Oh, I miss that little boy. We had Sunday lunch in Devon (or maybe Somerset) thanks to Gilly 🙂

        2. No. not yet, but we had lunch at a place she suggested to me a while back. Great spot to spend a couple of hours away from the motorway!

        3. Home safe 🙂
Ought to tidy up as some viewings tomorrow, but I am too tired. Driving 5 hours is draining, though the break today helped a lot.

    1. I did Gilly. Took your advice and went to Knightshayes Court for lunch on the way back. Was pleasantly surprised to find they serve a Sunday carvery! So we had a great lunch and then went for a wander around the house and woodland gardens, so pretty and such a lovely break from driving. And such a sunny, blue-sky day too 🙂 Hope you had a good day too.

  3. I”m with you Jude. Street art done well is so much better than vast walls of gray concrete. I’m glad to see that more and more communities are embracing this and commissioning artists to do the transformation.

  4. I absolutely positively love street art. It’s so for real.

I like the colors in this selection, and the comment you made about it leading the way into the city. I also like how clean it is. I suspect other street artist may like the way it looks (just the way it is) right now too.

Likes are nice, but comments start a conversation...
