I’ve been invited to take part in the “Five Photos, Five Stories” challenge by Alison of Scene by Minerva. The challenge is quite simply to “post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge”.
My five photos are going to depict what I love about Cornwall. The light, the colours, the coast, the history.
Godrevy Lighthouse on the eastern side of St Ives Bay, west Cornwall. Facing the Atlantic Ocean it is popular with both the surfing community and walkers, photographers and even writers. It was the inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s novel “To the Lighthouse“. (please click image to enlarge)
My nomination today is Lynne Ayers of Beyond the Brush Photography – who is an excellent art photographer. Absolutely no requirement to join in, only if you want to.
Lovely 🙂 . I haven’t explored this part of Cornwall (although I have been to the town of St Ives) but we are going again this summer, so I hope to do more exploring.
My first visit to Godrevy too! Looks like a great area to walk in, so wild!
I will be adding it to my list. 🙂
Looking forward to your appreciation of Cornwall Jude. Your nominated site has some great shots on it. The clock tower in the clouds is very different, and great in B+W.
Regards as always, Pete. x
Yes, Lynne does produce some amazing and very beautiful images. I am so glad that you take the time to visit sites I link to. Thank you Pete.
xx
Thank you, Jude, and Pete too.
I can see how this is inspiring for so many. It’s easy to get lost in the picture as well.
Breathtaking. ❤ ❤
Thank you Tess. This is a very popular landmark to photograph. Now that I have been there I can see why. It must be even more amazing at sunset.
Oh yes. I’m sure it’s heavenly. Sigh. ❤
I didn’t see this view but I did enjoy St-Ives. Very nice shot and interesting tidbit of info.
You can just about make out the lighthouse from Porthminster Beach / Carbis Bay side of St Ives.
Stunning photo, Jude. Godrevy lighthouse is such an iconic landmark. We were there a couple of summers ago. 🙂
It’s a lovely spot. Thanks Sylvia 🙂
That area around St Ives is beautiful, especially a bit off season. I’m already a fan of Lynne’s 🙂
Like much of our coast it is lovely when out of season and in sunshine. And the light is so magic down this part of the county. I can understand why artists are drawn to the area.
I was going to say straight from a postcard but that wouldn’t cover it. This is the postcard Jude. Beautiful.
Thank you Sue, it sure is as pretty as a postcard around the bay. I hope my images manage to convey the lovely light you find here.
I like your shot, Jude, but also very much enjoyed the story of the scene!
Thanks Torrie. At least this one has worked!
Oh, I love a lighthouse. Are there any sunken ships in that bay? (That obviously chose to ignore the light. Or it wasn’t working that night. Or they’re the reason they built a lighthouse in the first place.)
Heather there are hundreds of wrecks around Cornwall! Some deliberately enticed onto the rocks by ‘wreckers’. The only one I have seen though is much further north in Devon.
Beautiful photo Jude and that solitary surfer running to get into the waves gives it perspective.
I love it when that happens! I would have liked to have gone onto the beach too, but the steps down onto it were badly damaged in the horrendous storms in 2014 so it was impossible. Next time I go here I shall go along another path which brings you out onto an even bigger beach at the side of this one. I’d love to try and capture a sunset from here.
A sunset would be stunning. Have you bought a house in this area Jude?
It’s a photo that makes me want to step inside it and go for a walk along that magnificent coastline!
You can definitely do a long walk along this coastline Jo. The south-west coastal path is 630 miles! Probably best done in stages 😉
Darn!! I wish I was closer!! .. I would have found my new hiking challenge 🙂
I’m contemplating it if I ever get to move down there – a bit at a time though!
That’s the only way 🙂
I really want to get to Cornwall someday; I have such imaginings of it! Your picture makes me want to take a long walk along the coast there. 🙂
For some reason, I was following your blog but only on the Reader, not by email. Since I can barely keep up with my email notices on blog posts, I rarely get to my Reader!! I’m glad I found your travel blog and am now signed up for email notifications!!
I intend to get back to Cornwall one day – your post has me even more determined!
There are just so many lovely areas to visit in the UK and not enough time…
Too right!
Another beauty! (I’m working backwards) Must fly, Jude- will catch up with benches/flowers later.
Enjoy my Cornish ‘series’ Jo. I hope it shows why I love it down there. You back in the UK then?
