Travel Theme: Minimalist

P1180400I love the clean lines and shapes of Sydney’s famous Opera House though I’m not sure it quite fits into Ailsa’s minimalist theme this week (click on the image for a more dramatic view).

Heyjude

I now live back in the UK, but spent several years travelling the world and then living in South Africa. I look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. What I like most about that building is its uniqueness. Almost anyone can identify the Opera House, even if (like me) they have never been to Sydney. It does have an appealing geometric style, so even if it doesn’t count as ‘minimalist’, it is always worth a look.
    Regards as always, Pete. x

    1. I love the geometry too, those tiles from a distance just look white (on a sunny day) or ivory on a dull day. It is only when you get close up you notice the colours, the shapes, the fan pattern, the way some tiles reflect. It is just an amazing structure. It looks so simple (and therefore to my mind minimalist) but there is actually a lot of complexity.

  2. That texture is beautiful! Looks like the richest silk for a king’s robe! And, of course, zentangles abound 😉

I think this depicts minimalist perfectly!

  3. Jude as always I love the various perspectives.
On another note I am doing a post thanking bloggers who have provided mentoring to me in the past year. I have mentioned you with a link back to your blog. You have really helped me over this past year to slow down, look for various angles and to add some close ups. If for any reason you would prefer not to be included do let me know.

    1. Thanks Sue, and I am honoured to be mentioned in your blog, I’m not sure I can take any credit for the wonderful images you present to us though. You definitely have “the eye” of a photographer 🙂

  4. Utzon’s approach was mknimalist from the outset, so you’re entirely correct (as ever), Jude ! I doubt I’ve ever seen the tiles looking so good. Thanks !!

  5. Good angles Jude, certainly bringing the Opera House down to it’s minimalist details, though the Opera House itself is any thing but minimalist the tiles are, good interpretation.

        1. NOPE, no comparison ! I am in the NL and it’s about 2 hours away and the nice hotels do a bang up job of discounting on the ocean. Also there is the Dutch equivalent of the Polar Bear jump on New Years Day which we will WATCH 🙂 Beats the Mummers Parade for a change! I will keep you posted if it’s eventful ! Cheers!
